Bacon, Beuys, and Gursky – New Works in the Collection Online

The Collection Online was launched in summer of 2012 in order to make the "stories of the pictures" available to a larger public through the Internet.

Investigated during the course of research for the exhibition 100 x Paul Klee were the provenances of all of the works in our internationally-renowned Klee collection – which has now grown through a gift to contain altogether 101 works. The results are now published online, and include all of the up-to-date research on the ownership history of each picture.

The Klee exhibition has come to a close, but the Collection Online remains, and continues to be expanded.

While initially, all of the letters in the artist index up to K (i.e. Klee) remained hidden, recent publications are making more letters available to the browsing reader. Currently, the list extends from the Finnish artist Eija-Liisa Ahtila (*1959), with the video work Talo – The House, all the way to Robert Rauschenberg’s Wager, one of the largest pictures in the collection at Grabbeplatz.

Currently catalogued are altogether 131 works; new ones are gradually being added.

Writer Alissa Krusch does not believe that the Collection Online can replace a museum visit. She supervises the project for the Kunstsammlung, and is delighted to welcome each digital newcomer.
